Ham And Prosciutto Sandwich With Goat Cheese, Roasted Garlic And Blueberry Guacamole

“A Winter’s Sandwich”. Granted, in San Diego, winter is when the temperature drops to 50 degrees, and a storm is when we get 2 inches of rain and traffic slows down to 63 mph. We have it easy. This is a sandwich we made mostly from leftovers, some ham, some prosciutto, and half an avocado. We have pretty good leftovers I guess. It was an excellent afternoon in the low winter sun, with a warm sandwich and a glass of red wine in the swing. Life’s good.

Saint Faron Cheese Cracker “Sandwich” with Blueberries and Yellow Pear Tomato

There are times when a full sandwich is too much, and no sandwich is too little. Thankfully, for those times there are appetizers such as this. To justify adding this to the blog, I call it a ‘cracker sandwich’ (For which I received a scowl from my fellow sandwich maker). Anyway, the Saint Faron is a cheese we got at Costco this weekend. It’s very mild (So make sure to enjoy it at room temperature), and brags being a ‘French Triple Crème Cow’s Milk Cheese’. At the risk of being labelled uneducated, what is ‘triple crème‘ exactly? I mean, does it come from three different cows? Can I have their names? Someone explain this to me.

Danish Meatball Sandwich with Blueberries

It was Tuesday, and I want to write it was raining cats and dogs, but I live in San Diego so the weather was really very nice, just like the last 6 months or so. In any case, I got a crazy craving for Danish meatballs, and on my way home from work I had to stop to get some ground beef and pork. Danish Meatballs are called “Frikadeller” (singular form is frikadelle), and they can be made from many types and blends of meats, but this is a classic.

The sandwich itself is a ciabatta roll with ducks fat and roasted garlic smear. Two meatballs are heated and cut in half, and topped with stone ground mustard. A bit of sea-salt is sprinkled on, and it’s decorated with blueberries and a pickle. Fantastic sandwich.  The blueberries jumped out of my pantry at me, and I thought I would give it a go.
